Useful Packages for a Fresh Ubuntu Installation¶

Network utilities¶

sudo apt-get install net-tools

SSH server¶

Install an SSH server to allow remote logins:

sudo apt-get install openssh-server

Clipboard integration in a virtual machine¶

For desktop copy and paste support in many VM environments:

sudo apt install open-vm-tools-desktop

Restart the system after installation if the clipboard integration does not take effect immediately.

Git¶

sudo apt-get install git

When `apt update` Fails¶

A broken or outdated mirror can cause sudo apt-get update to fail. Review the active sources:

sudo vim /etc/apt/sources.list
